This study is a basic research which aims to improve the effectiveness of online Korean language classes by analyzing the item of teaching presence. Korean teachers and Korean learners who conducted online Korean language classes due to COVID-19 were surveyed for the research. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 20 and R according to the research procedure. The research procedure consisted of reliability analysis, factor analysis, paired sample t-test, Borich needs assessment, the Locus for Focus Model, and word cloud analysis. Based on the analysis, the top priorities considered by both teachers and learners alike in both the Borich needs assessment and Locus for Focus Model are as follows: The four top priority items for teaching presence for both the teacher and the learner were creating an easy-to-communicate environment, providing evaluation and feedback appropriate for online classes, suitability of the learning materials, and inducing learner interest. This analysis of the item of teaching presence will contribute positively on current online Korean language class by identifying items of lower satisfaction than their importance for sequential improvements and set the direction for systematic online Korean language class
