The purpose of this study is to analyze the construction of ‘-eo bwatja’ according to the discursive use and to describe the rules of its application based on discourse grammar. To this end, 500 examples extracted from semi-spoken language corpus were examined. The results suggest that the ‘-eo bwatja’ construction has three meanings: (a) no use, (b) it is not such a great degree, and (c) emphasis on the degree of the situation. Also, the results of the analysis showed that the ‘-eo bwatja’ construction was realized in private and official conversations and had the characteristic of being used mainly in informal settings. And in terms of power and solidarity, there were no restrictions. However, it was observed that this is used mainly when there is solidarity between the speaker and listener and is used status between the speaker and the listener is equal or the status of the speaker is higher than the listener’s position. Besides, it confirmed that the discourse functions of ‘-eo bwatja’ construction differed according to the hierarchical relationship between the speaker and the listener and those with the proximity of the relationship.
