The 2008 National Curriculum Revision of the Elementary English Textbook acknowledges the necessity of including English speaking cultural instruction in English language classrooms to promote explorative learning between the students’ culture andthose of the target language. This study analyzes the suitability of cultural elements included in The 2008 National Curriculum Revision of the Elementary English Textbook. This study identifies those elements that are unsuitable for cognitive and affective levels of development associated with elementary learners. Instructional elements unconnected to lesson objectives were also identified and addressed in this study. Moreover, this study recommends guidelines for selecting and developing effective cultural elements and strategies for elementary school English language instruction.
