The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of 12 weeks of the rope-jumping exercise training on body composition, blood lipid profiles and insulin resistance in obese children. Twenty obese children were assigned to one of two groups that exercise group(n=10) and control group(n=10). Exercise group performed the rope-jumping exercise training for 60 minutes/time, 5 times/week and 50∼70%HRmax intensity for 12 weeks, whereas control group were asked to maintain normal lifestyle during the same period. Variables of body composition, blood lipid profiles and insulin resistance were measured and compared between exercise group and control group as well as pre- and post- training using 2-way ANOVA with repeated measure. Main results were as follows: 1) Body weight, %fat and body fat decreased significantly in exercise group. 2) TC, TG and LDL-C decreased significantly in exercise group. 3) There was no significant changes found in variables regarding insulin resistance in exercise group and control group, but blood glucose concentration and HOMA-IR tended to decrease, HOMA-IS tended to increase in exercise group. In conclusion, 12 weeks of the rope-jumping exercise training would have positive effects on body composition, blood lipid profiles and insulin resistance in obese children.
