This study aims to evaluate relevance and usefulness of prehospital emergency medical service (EMS) and help make qualitative improvement of EMS evaluation methods and local EMS. Analyses were performed with data kept by the Seoul City Hall, the Seoul Metropolitan Fire & Disaster Headquarters, and Statistics Korea, including data concerning 119 fire-fighting and first aid and demographic data. Descriptive analysis was carried out, along with Pearson's correlation analysis to see correlation with several variables. The analytical method was performed by using SPSS WIN Version 12.0 package program. The average EXAMB value was 17.082 km and 5 districts of higher EXAMB values were Gangseo-Gu, Sungbuk-Gu, Jungnang-Gu, Gwanak-Gu, and Eunpyung-Gu in 25 districts of Seoul Metro City. Expected annual emergency miles per ambulance (EXAMB) was correlated with the ambulance transport rate for traffic accident patients (r=-0.452, p<.05), the physician utilization rate (r=0.630, p<.01), and the poverty rate (r=0.591, p<.01). Multiple linear regression analysis between amblance avaiability rate and each indicators showed that amblance avaiability rate was significant differences in the motality from motor vehicle crashes(r=0.790, p<.01) and poverty rates( β=0.391, p<.05). This study provided basic data to resolve inter-region imbalance of EMS, and further researches need to continuously examine the inter-region differences and those between urban and rural areas in Korea in order to secure uniformity of the service.
