In Baek Seok’s poetry, there are two kinds of speakers, the child and the adult. The difference of two speakers show the difference of the worldviews. The child speaker has a shamanic worldview that is traditional and animistic. And the adult speaker has a modern rational worldview. In his poetry the child speaker is the intentional method of composition of poems. The child speaker figures the traditional hometown that is not destroyed from the invasion of the imperialism of Japan. The poet intentionally creates this images to overcome the distorted modernism of Japan imperialism. In that point of view, the dialect of Jeongju, the poet’s hometown, has a important meaning. The poet’s hometown is the counterpart of Seoul that is the center of modernity distorted by Japan imperialism. The poet creates this hometown images through the child speaker and the dialect. Through this, the poet overcomes the Japan imperialism.
