After 2000 the system for special school teacher license was issued based on the level of the school such as preschool, elementary, and secondary regardless on the type of the children with disabilities. It means that special school teachers have to teach all types of the children with disabilities. Therefore many problems such as lack of the skill and knowledge to teach children with disabilities. The purpose of this study was to illustrate the recognition teachers for mental retardation toward educational status and the intensive education with in-service training. 726 teachers with 18 schools for mental retardation were participated for this study. The results of this study were that (a) the teachers for children with mental retardation indicated high needs for the intensive education with in-service training; (b) more positive attitudes toward the intensive education with in-service training, the needs were higher in the intensive education with in-service training; and (c) the selection of the instructor was the most important factor to insure the effectiveness of the intensive education with in-service training. Therefore this study concluded that the teachers for mental retardation indicated the very high necessary to operate the intensive education with in-service training.
