세계 경제에서 서비스 산업이 차지하는 비중은 그동안 꾸준히 증가해왔다. 제조업 중심의 투입주도형 성장전략이 한계에 봉착함에 따라 서비스산업 경쟁력 강화와 혁신주도형 성장전략으로의 발상 전환이 경제성장과 고용안정의 성과를 좌우하는 중요한 변수로 부각되고 있다.


Service industry is an important business to represent an advanced economy and is getting to take more portion out of all industries at home, and there is a tendency that the bigger cities are growing, the more they rely on service industry. This paper analyzed the efficiency of service industry for 7 metropolitan cities where more than 80% of service industries exist at home. The target of analysis was the service industries in 7 metropolitan cities nationwide and Input-oriented DEA model consisted of input variances(business expense, wage, rent)-output variance(turnover) were utilized for analysis. The results of analysis were as follows. First, Gwangju and Ulsan were proved to be most efficient, while Seoul and Taegu appeared to be inefficient. Second, specialized science and technical service were the most efficient business types, and publishing, image, broadcast telecommunication and information service were the most inefficient business types. These results may indicate the level of service industry efficiency in each region. Specially, the comparison of efficiency by service type for 7 metropolitan cities can suggest the reason of relative inefficiency in the service industry of each region. Some development plans for service industry should be established through more diversified research in the future.
