The objective of this study was to investigate the water quality characteristics of the rivers with flow rate in Gap stream basin during from 2004 to 2008. The mean rainfall ranged from 19,882 to 35,035mm which was the lowest rainfall in 2008. Effluents of 6.17CMS on average from wastewater treatment plant (WTP) in the basin have influenced the increase of flow rate in the basin. As the characteristics of water quality in the basin, the DO concentration was 10mg/L on average due to considerably algae growth. BOD concentration ranged from 1.9 to 4.1mg/L, which indicated 2nd grade for Yudeung (YD) and Daejeon (DJ) streams and 3rd grade for Gap stream. The high level of BOD resulted in the inflow of untreated sewage and the effluent from WTP into the water body in the river basin. For nutrient concentrations ranging from mg/L to mg/L, dry season during January to December were higher than rainy season during July to September. SS concentration was high during March to May and decreased after June. This resulted in the overgrowth of algae during dry season due to the inflow of lots of organic and nutrient into the Geum river and Daechung dam.
