The water quality of Shingal reservoir and inflow streams became deteriorated by inflow of pollutants originated from point and non-point sources. This study was performed to investigate the pollution status of Shingal reservoir and inflow streams, and to study the function of the pollution reducing equipment in order to improve the water quality. The average removal efficiencies of SS, COD, T-N and T-P by the pollution reducing equipment were 74.8%, 19.1%, 5.5 %, 7.7%, respectively. That is, the removal efficiency of SS was excellent, but T-N, T-P was insufficient. The average removal efficiencies in marsh Ⅱ constituted by sand and pea-gravel(Ø=5 mm) were most excellent(SS 51.6%, COD 20.0%, T-N 4.7 %, T-P 6.5%). The removal efficiencies of T-N, T-P by the pollution reducing equipment were insufficient because of low density and inactive growth of plant, absence of the absorbent in marsh process and the final settling tank in contact oxidation process. 5. In order to improve the water quality of Shingal reservoir and inflow streams, we must enhance the efficiency of the pollution reducing equipment.
