한국에서 대학입학제도는 중등교육이나 고등교육에 있어 매우 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있어 대학입학제도를 바꾸는 것은 교육의 패러다임을 바꾸는 것으로 인식되기도 한다. 현 행 대학입학제도가 그 성과에도 불구하고 성적 부풀리기 현상, 학교 간 학력차이 등으로 인해 학교 내신보다는 대학수학능력시험 성적에 의존하는 결과를 가져왔고, 이로 인해 중 등교육이 대학입시교육으로 전락하는 결과를 초래하였다. 이에 정부는 대학입학전형에서 학생의 잠재력과 소질, 대학의 설립이념과 모집단위의 특성 등을 고려하는 선진화된 전형 방법으로의 전환 필요성에 따라 새로운 대학입학전형 방식으로서 입학사정관제도를 도입하 였다. 그러나 개개인의 잠재력과 성장가능성을 위주로 학생을 선발함으로써 과다한 대학입 시경쟁과 사교육을 완화하자는 취지에서 도입된 입학사정관제도는 대학의 준비 정도와 고 등학교와 학생ㆍ학부모의 준비 정도와 맞물리면서 기대와 우려를 동시에 갖게 하고 있다. 이러한 시점에서 본 연구는 입학사정관제도에 대한 연구, 특히 2007년 입학사정관제도를 도입하여 시범운영하고 있는 대학에 대한 평가 연구가 매우 중요하다는 인식하에 한국의 입시문제를 개혁하기 위해 도입된 입학사정관제도의 운영실태를 분석하여 문제점이 무엇인 지, 제도의 정착 및 활성화를 위해 개선해야 할 것은 무엇인지를 살펴보았다. 제도의 활성 화를 위해 입학사정관제도에 대한 연구는 일회적으로 끝나는 것이 아니라 일정 주기로 그 리고 지속적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다.


The system of the college entrance process stands as one of the most important matters in the education system of Korean middle and high schools. Therefore, bringing change to the college entrance system is perceived as changing the paradigm of the whole education system. The current system, even though of it’s positive results, has brought about negative effects such as bubbling of grades and bigger grade barriers between schools. The academic reports of individual schools has become unreliable and colleges have depended mostly on college entrance exam scores in selecting students. Due to this, middle school education has become an earlier base for preparing for the college entrance exam. To eliminate these negative effects, the government has decided to introduce the Admission Officer System for college entrance. The purpose of this system is to give admission to students by evaluating the potential knowledge and skill of students. One of the key factors of the system is that it will make it possible for each college to consider it’s own ideology and the specific quality of their recruitment group. However, this system which was made to relieve the severe competition of college entrance and the explosive cost of private education, brings about both expectations and worries. Students and parents are worried that they are not ready enough for a sudden new system. As the time being, evaluation of universities that have been selected to run an example model of this Adimission Officer System in 2007 is very important. This research gives insight on how the system is run, looks into the problems, suggests improvements to safely settle and revitalize the system. For the Admission Officer System to safely slide into the education process, research on this subject should be carried on consistently and also on a regular cycle.
