The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of the psychological empowerment on the relationship between self-leadership and service quality. In order to verify the relationships and mediating effect, data were obtained from 573 workers engaged in medical institutions, Ulsan Metropolitan City and were analyzed by using SPSS 12.0 and AMOS 5.0. The findings are as follows: First, the self-leadership was positively related to the psychological empowerment and service quality. Second, there was also a positive relationship between the psychological empowerment and the service quality. Thus, the hypothesis of the psychological empowerment as a mediator was supported. Based on these findings, the implications and the limitations of the study were discussed and some directions for future studies were suggested.
