Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of exercise program in aqua on physical fitness, body composition and quality of life in elderly women. The subjects for this study were 25 elderly women. Subjects participated in 8 weeks exercise program in aqua to three times per week for 60 minutes. The exercise program in aqua consisted of 24 times. Methods: This exercise program in aqua run 60 minutes a day, including 10 minutes for warming-up, 40minutes for exercise in aqua and 10 minutes for cooling-down. And the change of physical fitness, body composition and quality of life were measured after aquatic exercise program. The program lasted from Sep. 3 to Nov. 31, 2007. The data was analysed SAS 8.2. Results: The aquatic exercise program was significantly effective in the increase of body flexibility(p<0.001), and the decrease of BMI, body fat and abdominal fat rates in elderly women(p<0.050). However, there was no significant effectiveness in increasing the quality of life and cognitive ability of the subjects. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that the aquatic exercise can be an effective interventional strategy to improve the physical ability in elderly women.
