<백호통의> 또는 <백호통>은 79년(A.D.) 낙양 북궁의 백호관에서 열 렸던 회의 결과를 기록한 것이다. 이 회의의 목적은 ‘五經의 同異를 검토하고 의논해서 결론을 맺고자’ 한 것이었다. 백호관 회의는 표면상 금고문(今古文) 경학의 주요 쟁점들을 해결하는 것이었지만, 결과적으로 학술토론이라는 형식 을 빌어 국가의 강한 의지를 관철시키고, ‘三綱六紀’사상을 사회, 정치, 생활의 핵심 지위로 확립시켰으며, 사회등급질서 및 그와 연관된 행위규범을 확산시 켰는데 이는 漢代 사회건설사상의 중요한 표현이라고 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 <백호통의>의 사회사상을 크게 세 가지로 귀납한다. 1) 儒家 의 전통과 陰陽五行사상을 계승하여 도덕으로 관리되는 이상사회의 모델을 제 시하고, “무엇때문에 이상사회가 가능한가”를 천명했다. 2) 태평시기의 사회 발전수요에 적응하여, “制樂作樂”으로써 사회적규범을 변혁시켜 화목하고 서 로 돕는 사회집단과 공동체를 건설하고자 하는 것이다. 3) 漢代 사회관계를 ‘三 綱六紀’로 귀납하고, 天下와 지역공동체, 지역공동체와 지역공동체 그리고 인 간과 인간을 서로 연계시는키는 사회관계방식은 사회연계망이 부단히 확장되 고 상호작용이 밀접해지는 발전추세에 적응한다는 것이다. 즉 <백호통의>는 농업사회발전에 필요로할 뿐만 아니라 해결해야만 할 과제인 사회이상, 사회 규범 및 사회관계등을 포괄적으로 천명했고, 秦漢이후 사회발전방식을 보다 전면적으로 제시했으며, 유가정신을 기반으로 하는 理想사회를 건설하고자 하 는 것이다.


Baihu Tongyi (Baihu Tong) recorded the outcome of the meeting at Luoyang White Tiger Temple View in A.D. 79. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the similarities and differences of the five classics and to obtain some conclusions of the more recognized. On the surface, the purpose of the meeting is to solve the main disputes of present and ancient classics. Actually, the result is an academic discussion with the form of implementing the country's strong will to establish the core position of a “sangang liuji” ideas in social, political and daily life, and to promote the hierarchical order of society and its codes of conduct, is an important performance of Han social construction. This paper argues that there are mainly three aspects of social construction in Baihu Tongyi : First, it has inherited the Confucian tradition and the idea of yin and yang, proposed a ideal social model of ethical management, answered “How could the ideal society” issue. Second, it is adapted to peace and social development, using “ritual music” to promote social norms change, to build a harmonious, cooperative communities and community. Third, it has summarized social relations in the Han Dynasty as “San Gang Liu Ji ”(三纲六纪), as a contact mode with the world and the community, the community and the community and social relations between people, and adapted to the growing expansion of social networks and the trend of increasingly close of social interaction. In short, Baihu Tongyi is a comprehensive answer to the problems of social ideals, social norms and social relations, which agricultural society development need to be resolved. It further improved the options of social development since the Qin and Han Dynasties, and tried to build a good society under the influence of a spirit of Confucianism.
