The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of both a long-term carnosine, lipoic administration and training on antioxidant defense system in rats. Twenty-eight male sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned into control group(n=7), exericse group(n=7), carnosine, lipoic administration group(n=7), carnosine, lipoic administration and exercise group(n=7). carnosine, lipoic administration and exercise training were performed for 8wk. Carnosine-treated rats were given orally for 8wk with 25mg/kg. Lipoic-treated rats were given orally for 8wk with 100mg/kg. Exercised rats performanced for 30min, 16m/min. After 8wk treatment, rats were sacrificed. SOD & GPX activity was the highest significantly in the blood of the Carnosine, lipoic administration and the exercise group following the 8wk treatment. MDA concentration was the lowest significantly in the blood of the lipoic administration and the exercise group following the 8wk treatment.
