This paper is primarily concerned with R. S. Thomas’s view on man and technological civilization in his poetry. In the modern scientific, technological civilization, R. S. Thomas saw that man, who pursues worldly wealth and his own desire, is completely severed from nature, and God. The nature has been damaged indiscriminately by machines. Furthermore, machines are responsible for the destruction of relationship between man and God. His hatred toward modern technological civilization lies in his beliefs that applied science like machines is the main cause of the catastrophic disasters to the humane world with its potential destructiveness. Only through the recovery of nature and faith in God, he thinks, man has a future without self-destruction.
