"Keiretzu" in Japan affects the Japanese economy through many important key industrial sectors. They contribute to produce a huge number of consumer goods for the local people and of export goods for the people in foreign countries. The Japanese "Keiretzu" can be divided into two major groups. One is the traditional companies group, Zaibatzu, which include Misui and Misubshi. The other is an independent company group, like Toyota and Matsusida. Among many others, a main characteristic of Japanese companies is that they have very close relationships between member companies in the group. It is quite debatable issues that such kinds of the close co-operations between companies are one of the key factors that have led the Japans economy to be strong in competition in the world market. Moreover, the Japanese peculiar exclusive system has the member companies in the group to enjoy considerably reducing their production costs and to specialize themselves in a specific area, and so contributed to enhance the business firms overall competitiveness in a positive way. In this context, this paper tries to examine the main key features and relationships of the individual firms affiliated to "Keiretzu", to look at how the stylized characteristics contribute to increase the firms competitiveness, and finally to draw implications.
