The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of both a long-term carnosine administration and training on antioxidant defense system in rats. Twenty eight male sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned into control group(n=7), exericse group(n=7), carnosine administration group(n=7), carnosine administration and exercise group(n=7), were performed for 8wk. Carnosine-treated rats were given orally for 8wk with 25mg/kg. Exercised rats performanced for 30min, 16m/min. After 8wk treatment, rats were sacrificed. Data analysis was done by computer using as SPSS(V.10.1) and one-way anova; the results of this study summarized as follows: Changes in the SOD in liver, in general, suggest: carnosine admistration with exercise group showed the highest SOD. Changes in the MDA in liver, in general, suggest: carnosine admistration with exercise group showed the lowest MDA. Changes in the GPx in liver, in general, suggest: carnosine admistration with exercise group showed the highest GPx. This study get a basic data on the decrease of cell injury by observing the aspect of antioxidant enzyme activity and the effects that 8 weeks of aerobic exercise and Carnosine administration have on lipid peroxide and antioxidant enzyme activity.
