The objective of the paper is to provide an effective surface insulation curing method of concrete placed under cold weather condition. Temperature profile and strength development of concrete for deck plate slab under cold weather condition are investigated. Two different water to cement ratio(W/C) and six different curing method were adopted for these series of test. According to test results, in case of W/C 35 and 45%-Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ combination and W/C 45%-Ⅳ combination, temperature drops below 0℃ within early 24 hours. Meanwhile, in case of W/C 35%-Ⅳ and W/C 35, 45%-Ⅴ, Ⅵ combination, temperature maintains above 0℃ until 60~90 hours after placement, which can contribute to prevention from frost damage at early age resulting from favorable insulation effect by curing materials. Maturity of concrete obtained to reach 0℃ since placement is 1.7 and 4.0°DD for W/C 35% and 45% -Ⅰ combination, respectively, while concrete for W/C 35% and 45%- Ⅴ and Ⅵ combination obtained 54.3, 48.9, 70.6 and 48.9 °DD of maturity, which satisfy minimum maturity value 40°DD proposed by Koh to prevent frost damage at early age. Based on strength estimation using measured maturity above, concrete with W/C 35 and 45%-Ⅴ and Ⅵ combination gain above 5MPa of compressive strength. Effective curing method for concrete with 35% of W/C is Ⅳ and for concrete with 45%, V considering economical aspect and efficiency in execution.
