Ecotourism is a form of tourism provided which is not harmful to the environment but protects and preserves the environment. Previous studies on ecotourism only focused on the destination of travel when distinguishing ecotourist and mass tourist, and this is not giving a very satisfying result. Therefore, the present research distinguished them by the attitude toward the preservation of the environment. Tourists with positive attitude toward the preservation of environment, we call them ecotourists, and the others who are indifferent or against preserving the environment, we defined them as mass tourists. The purpose of this research is to understand the characteristics of ecotourists by distinguishing the two different groups of tourists on their attitude toward the environment. 900 citizens of Daegu are surveyed on their attitude toward the environment, and the result is scored to compare the characteristics of each tourism. It is found out that many ecotourists are in their 30s and 40s, and many of them are married, well-educated, paid with high income, and professionals. It is also known that ecotourists usually plan their trip carefully and collect information on the destination, and prefer to travel with family or by herself. Also the researchers found out that ecotourists consider experiencing and understanding nature very important.
