미네랄오일에 Pseudocumene을 용매로 하는 액체 섬광액을 첨가하면서 섬광의 변화를 조사하였다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 20리터의 저가형 액체섬광 검출기를 제작하였다. 섬광신호를 검출하기 위하여 검출기의 용기 안에 직경이 1인치인 광증배관을 부착하였다. 우주선에 의한 뮤온이 검출기 속에서 모든 에너지를 잃고 정지했을 때 뮤온의 시그널과 뮤온이 붕괴할 때 나오는 전자의 시그널의 에너지와 시간 차이를 동시에 알기위하여 400 MHZ Flash ADC를 사용하여 신호를 읽어 내었다. 뮤온 수명은 2.14 $\pm$ 0.05 $\mu$s로 측정되어 이론값과 통계 오차 내에서 일치하였다. 저가형 대용량 액체섬광 검출기와 FADC를 이용한 시스템은 뮤온 선속 및 수명 측정 등 학생들의 교육에 이용될 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 핵물리 및 입자물리 실험 등에 응용 될 수 있다.


A pseudocumene-based liquid scintillator was made and added into mineral oil. The change in the output of scintillation light was measured for different percentages of the liquid scintillator. A 20-liter low-cost liquid scintillator detector was constructed based on our study. A 1-inch photomultipliter tube (PMT) was attached to the detector. A 400-MHZ spell out FADC (FADC) was used to measure the energy of the stopped muon and that of the exector (positron), as well as the time difference between their measurement. The lifetime of cosmic muons is measured to be 2.14 $\pm$ 0.05 $\mu$s consistent with the theoretical value. Thus, a low-cost liquid scintillator detector with FADC electronics can be used for nuclear and high-energy physics experiments, as well as student education.
