This study aims to critically analyze John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men in the form of original novel and in the form of a complete film adaptation of the same novel. In doing so, analyses of the transformational process of the characters will be made. This study has been undertaken to find ways for literature to survive in the era of a close relationship of literature and film. To this end, the film adaptation Of Mice and Men by Lewis Milestone and Gary Sinise in 1939 and 1992 respectively was chosen. The analyses of the adaptation of a film will center on critical analyses of the transitional processes of the characters. In the writing, I discussed how the plot was arrived at through the background of the times when the movies were made and analyses of novels and film adaptation. The approach taken to understand Steinbeck’s literature was through an alienated person, Curley’s wife. The role of women under the patriarchy against the background of the times and the transformational process in the relationship between George and Lennie who are the two main protagonists of both novel and film also were critical points for understanding Steinbeck’s works. Finally I presented various images of female character, Curley’s wife whom Steinbeck intended to describe in Of Mice and Men through analyzing in two version film and novel.
