The purpose of this study was to investigate the long chain fatty acid oxidation and CPT-1 activites according to intensity of treadmill exercise for 6 weeks in MSG-Obese rats. Spragye-Dawley rats were randomly divided into control (CON), MSG and MSG plus exercise (MSG+EX) groups. The body weight were significantly higher in CON group. But body fat mass were significantly increased MSG rats compared with CON rats. The concentration of blood lipid variable were significantly higher in the MSG group. And so, FFA and insulin level was significantly decreased by the exercise. The metabolic characteristics of the liver, red and white gastrocnemius muscle were quite different; liver and red muscle has a higher mitochondrial volume and more enzymes of the aerobic metabolism than white muscle. This study showed that the red gastrocnemius muscle had a higher palmitate oxidation rate and CPT1 activity than white gastrocnemius muscle. In conclusion, palmitate oxidation rate and CPT1 activity was varied greatly depending on different tissue type.
