<춘향전>은 한국의 대표적인 고전명작으로서 20세기에 들어 20차례에 가깝게 영화로 개작되었다. 본 논문은 북한 '조선예술영화촬영소'가 1980년에 제작한 <춘향전>과 남한의 임권택 감독이 2000년에 제작한 <춘향뎐>을 연구대상으로 이념과 체제의 차이로 말미암아 남한과 북한이 고전명작을 영화로 개작함에 있어 나타나는 차이를 분석하였다. 임권택은 <춘향전>을 한민족 전통문화의 메신저로 삼아 그것을 통해 한국의 민족정신을 나타내려고 하는 반면, 북한은 공산주의의 문화법칙에 의거하여 <춘향전>을 해석하고 있다.

The discourse, choosing the North Korean cinema ChoonHyang Jun which was filmized in 1980 by North Korea film studio and the South Korean cinema ChoonHyang Jun which was filmized in 2000 by famous director Im Kwon-taek, tries to analyze how the same classic has been expressed by the same nationality under the different social system. Im Kwon-taek has taken ChoonHyang Jun as an important code bearing Korean traditional culture, and through it South Korean people are united. On the other hand, North Korean cinema ChoonHyang Jun has reinterpreted the classic on the basis of the culture logic of socialism.
