This study was carried out to evaluate the characteristics of dissolved organics based on their origins. Samples from rivers, lakes, secondary sewage treatment effluent, and Aldrich humic acids and Wako humic acids were chosen as representatives of their origins. Physicochemical water quality, biological degradability, and THMFP in samples were analyzed in terms of AMWD. Out of the natural water sample sources, lake samples were anticipated to be the most biodegradable in the order of secondary sewage treatment effluent, river according to SUVA. A biodegradability test showed similar results. While dissolved organics in the range of LMW decreased during the biodegradability test, dissolved organics in HMW had a tendency to increase. SMP ranged from 0.7-5.5% for DOC. SMP were abundant in samples containing HMW. THM formation was high in samples containing HMW and a similar tendency was evident in THMFP excluding Wako HA.
