Objectives : This experimental study was designed to investigate the effects of Magye-um(Magui-yin) on change of weight, serum and in obese rat induced by high fat diet. Methods and Materials : Experimental groups were divided into 3 groups; normal group, control group and sample group for 10 separate rats as experiment. We fed normal diet to normal group for 8 weeks, high fat diet and administered normal saline 448 mg/kg(1 time/1 day) to control group for 8 weeks, high fat diet and administered Magye-um(Magui-yin) extract 448mg/kg(1 time/1 day) to sample group for 8 weeks. Magye-um(Magui-yin) was investigated effects of serum contents and size of epididymis fat cells Results : 1. Glucose level in blood serum of sample group decreased as compared to control group with statistical significance(p<0.01). Insulin level in blood serum of sample group was increased as compared to control group with statistical significance(p<0.05). 2. Total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL-cholesterol level in blood serum of sample group decreased as compared to control group with statistical significance(p<0.001) and phospholipid and free fatty acid level in blood serum of sample group decreased as compared to control group with statistical significance(p<0.005). HDL-cholesterol level in blood serum of sample group was not different from that of control group statistically. 3. Leptin level in blood serum of sample group was increased as compared to control group with statistical significance(p<0.005). 4. T3 and T4 level in blood serum and mean size of epididymis fat cells of sample group decreased as compared to control group with statistical significance(p<0.001). Conclusions : It is suggested that Magye-um(Magui-yin) has some effects to reduce the obesity induced by high fat diet in rats.
