본고는 작문 교육에서 컴퓨터의 자리매김을 위해 논의를 전개하였다. 작문 교육에서 컴퓨터나 인터넷은 매우 유용한 도구로서 인식되고 있었다. 그런데 작문 교육에서 컴퓨터나 인터넷은 사람을 중심으로 다루어지고 있지는 않았다. 그 이유는 컴퓨터라는 기계적 특성과 인터넷이 제공하는 환경적 특성의 유용성 때문이었다. 즉 컴퓨터와 인터넷을 가능하게 된 다양한 기능들을 작문 교육에서 사용하려다 보니 컴퓨터와 인터넷을 중심으로 다루어지게 된 것이었다. 이는 글을 쓰는 주체가 사람이라는 점에서 그 위상을 찾지 못한 결과라 할 수 있었다. 작문 교육에서 컴퓨터나 인터넷은 유용한 도구로서 다루어져야 하며, 어디까지나 사람을 중심으로 다루어질 때 그 위상을 제대로 정립할 수 있음을 보았다. 그래서 그 모색의 실례로 단문 작성과 세부 개요 작성 교육을 제한했다. 또 문서 작성 프로그램의 기능을 추가함으로써 글을 쓰는 사람들로 하여금 보다 나은 글을 작성할 수 있도록 유도할 수 있다는 것도 언급해 보았다. 마지막으로는 작문 교육에서 컴퓨터가 다루어지고 그 비중이 높아지더라도 기계라는 한계가 있으며 글을 쓰는 것은 사람이라는 점에서 전통적 글쓰기와 컴퓨터 글쓰기의 교육이 조화를 이루는 것이 작문 교육의 나아갈 방향임을 살펴보았다.


The purpose of this study was to delve into the position of computer in writing education. Computer and the Internet are viewed as two of very useful instruments for writing education. Yet the focus of computer-aided or web-based writing education isn't placed on a person, because of the superb mechanical characteristics of computer and the excellent environmental features of the Internet. That is, the effort to take advantage of the multiple benefits of computer and the Internet results in highlighting the importance of those instruments a lot, and the fact it is a person who write is overlooked. Obviously, computer and the Internet are of great use for writing education, but that education will be on the right track when it is human-centered. It's mentioned in this study that short composition and detailed outline making, the addiction of a document editor program will assist people to write better, but even though computer gains in importance as one of primary elements for writing education, that is no more than a machine. A balance between typical writing and computer-aided one should be pursued in writing education, as writing is done by a person.
