erforming Activities by Kisaeng of the P'yŏngyang Kyobang in the Late Chosŏn Period Kim Ŭn-ja During the periods of Koryŏ and Chosŏn dynasties, Kyobang 敎坊 was one of the important government institutions in relation with female entertainers commonly known as kisaeng 妓生. In the Chosŏn period there were two kinds of kisaeng, i.e. the female entertainers of Hansŏng 漢城 (present Seoul) called kyŏnggi 京妓 and regional kisaeng of eight provinces (hyanggi 鄕妓). This paper aims at investigating performing activities by kisaeng of P'yŏngyang kyobang 平壤敎坊 based on two primary sources: 1) P'yŏngyangji ꡔ平壤志ꡕ, a Record of P'yŏngyang City, compiled in 1590 by Yun Tu-su 尹斗壽 and 2) P'yŏngyang kamsa hwanyŏngdo 平壤監司歡迎圖, a Welcoming Picture for a P'yŏngyang Governor. This paper covers four topics: 1. Introduction, 2. Performing Repertory of P'yŏngyang Kyobang, 3. Performing Activities by Kisaeng of P'yŏngyang Kyobang, 4. Conclusion. In conclusion the author points out that the dance repertory of P'yŏngyang Kyobang included twelve court dances, i.e. P'ogurak 抛毬樂, Mugo 舞鼓, Ch'ŏyongmu 處容舞, Hyangbal 響鈸, Abak 牙拍, Sŏnyurak 船遊樂, Mudong 舞童, Yŏnhwdae 蓮花臺, Kŏmmu 劍舞, Hangmu 鶴舞, Hŏnsŏndo 獻仙桃, and Sajamu 獅子舞. Besides these dance repertories, in P'yŏngyangji included are such musical pieces as Yŏmillak 與民樂, Manjŏnch'un 滿殿春, Kamgunŭn 感君恩, Pohŏja 步虛子, Ssanghwajŏm 雙花店, Hallim pyŏlgok 翰林別曲, Sŏgyŏng pyŏlgok 西京別曲, Ponghwangŭm 鳳凰吟, and Kwansŏ pyŏlgok 關西別曲.
