Dissolution of Settlement Village and Network of Migration in Hansen's Disease ex-patient Communities Jung, Keun-Sik (Seoul National University) This study analyzed the process of the dissolution of the settlement village and the relocation of the villagers both in the rural area and in the suburban area. The dissolution is the result of the interaction between the local government, the land development companies and the ex-patient communities. Compared to the previous cases, the internal factor of the settlement village, the choices of the villagers play more important roles in this process. Since the roles of the second generation of ex-patients become more important, their interests and concerns affect the process more strongly. In the process of the village dissolution and relocation, the villagers usually have three viable choices: full reintegration to the society, migration to other settlement villages and institutionalization to other Hansen-related sanatoriums. Since the strong prejudices and discrimination persist in the society, the villager's choices are bound to be very limited and to depend on the religious networks.
