Slowly moving solitary waves are observed in a nonlinear three-wave interaction by using a onedimensional uid simulation. When a short laser pulse propagates through a plasma with a counterpropagating pump, it is ampli ed intensively through stimulated Raman backscattering, and solitary waves are generated behind the ampli ed pulse. The solitary-wave solutions, as well as the governing equations, for this interaction are derived analytically and compared with the simulation results.
