The discussion about love is difficult though it looks simple. There will be many reasons for this. It is probable that the word “love” implies first many meanings and love itself is mysterious. In fact, there have been many discussions about the love since ancient times. But love is still a subject to us that has need of new interpreting and new understanding because of its implicit and transcendental meanings. This paper presents philosophical research about the essential concept of love on the basis of traditional metaphysics and the christian tradition, and methodologically is based on the ontological and philosophical anthropological point of view. This paper is also the “existenzial” research about the transcendent structure and the ontological meaning of love that has already profoundly infiltrated our life, but whose influence is so poor because that is not yet intellectually integrated. This paper searches 1) the ontological meaning of love that is just the absolute affirmation of being and openness to the absolute being, 2) the philosophical anthropological meaning of love that is defined in the personal relation, 3) all personal love, which includes eros-philia-agape. These infiltrate and mediate each other. Love is the absolute affirmation of being and the openness to the absolute being. From the ontological point of view, love comes from being-itself, that is, it is absolutely unlimited, unconditional and full. Ontologically love is not giving, but receiving. It overflows with fullness. Therefore we need first of all to open to love.
