The gothic architectural style emerged in the end of the twelfth century had pursued the monumental lightweight structure profoundly different from its antecedents. As every age of architecture evolved out of the previous style, however, gothic architecture also had developed from Late Romanesque and Early Gothic to High Gothic architecture. The evolution of gothic architecture through this process manifests in the interior wall elevation rather than the exterior. Thus, this study examined the transition of the nave wall elevation from Early Gothic to the High Gothic Cathedrals in Ile-de-France. As the result, three-story elevations, quadripartite vault and compound pier complete the development of the nave wall elevation.
