The purpose of this study is to establish the rationale of the yard regulations of the Korea Building Law which had been abolished since Feb 8, 1999, but which are to be brought up as a bill again.This paper has been studied about the requiring minimum depth of the side yards and the rear yard and of the front yard according to the use and bulk of buildings on the basis of the district characters.This study proposes that zero lot line building should be also permitted in a commercial district in order to increase density of the buildings in it. However, if, in commercial district, the minimum depth of the side yards and rear yard of buildings are to be built more than five feet(apartment house : 10 feet), We suggest that the limitations on FAR and on the height of buildings should be eased as an incentive.
