In current seismic design provisions (NEHRP (1997), UBC (1997), Korean Loading Provisions (2000)) seismic demand is determined by a design base shear. Basically, elastic response spectrum, weight of a structure, and response modification factor (R factor) are key components of the design base shear. In recent years, seismic demand is predicted by newly developed methods, such as capacity spectrum method and displacement coefficient method. This study attempts to investigate the effect of different earthquake record sets on seismic demand, which have obtained from the sites with a similar soil condition. For this purpose 3 sets of earthquake ground motions were considered, which were collected by Miranda (1993), Riddell (1995), and Seed et al. (1976). These sets of earthquake records have been widely used to calculate the seismic design particularly in low and moderate seismic regions not having enough earthquake records. In this study, key components of the base shear such as linear elastic response spectrum (LERS) and R factor, and inelastic response spectrum (IRS) were considered as seismic demands. Also the performance point in capacity spectrum method was considered as a seismic demand.
