The purpose of this study is to analyze architectural characteristics of modernized elementary model schools and to provide practical data for qualitative improvement of physical facilities in the future. Ten modernized elementary model schools were classified with three types such as urban renovation type, rural unification type and elementary & middle school unification type ; physical conditions and plans were analysed with each type. The study shows unit learning area and assistant facilities in the urban renovation type and regional facilities in the rural unification type are well arranged respectively, and open spaces for low grade students were partly introduced in 90% of the examined schools regardless of the type. By the comparative analyses about spacial composition of each area, elementary & middle school unification type showing comparatively low proportions of learning and living areas through the efficient management can be considered as an important model in the meaning of utilization of physical facilities.
