In the control of building structures subject to strong excitation, control force saturation may be important. Therefore, control algorithm with restricted maximum control force is required. But the nonlinear characteristics of such a control algorithm makes it difficult to quantify control effectiveness for random excitation. So, in this study, authors propose efficient nonlinear control algorithm with restricted maximum control force, and derive the closed loop system's joint PDF governed by the reduced Fokker-Plank equation. Based on the joint PDF, bi-section algorithm is used to determine the maximum control force required to restrict the failure probability of displacement response to prescribed value. From numerical analysis, it is shown that proposed control algorithm can save the maximum control force compared to linear control algorithm and that approximate failure probability is considerably accurate.
