As time goes up, structural capacity of members decreases in reinforced concrete structures. The deterioration of the capacity is mainly due to the corrosion of materials, poor construction and environmental pollution, etc. This deterioration is unavoidable, thus it is necessary to develop the method for repair & retrofit of structures in order to ensure structural safety of members. Recently, a method using Carbon Fiber Sheet(CFS) has been widly recognized as good one for strengthening members. Several tests for beam strengthened with CFS show that CFS of the beam finally is ripped by tension or seperated from the concrete face. The ultimate strength of the beam, also, depends on those failure patterns. Therefore, it is necessary to consider those failure mechanisms to verify the behavior of members retrofitted by CFS. In this paper, a FEM analysis is performed to verify the behavior and failure mechanism of beams retrofitted by CFS or steel plate. The material composition model of CFS is proposed and applied to the analysis. Analysis result shows a good agreement with the test result.
