The daylight responsive dimming system, which uses daylight and automatically adjusts the light output of electric lighting according to the amount of daylight coming into the indoor, is an energy saving system. This system consists of three major components such as a photosensor measuring indoor luminous flux, a controller (including a control program) for initial calibration and dimming control of the system, and dimming electronic ballast for dimming electric lighting. This research has intended to improve accuracy of system performance by indicating the correlation between control voltage of a dimming electronic ballast and the resulting light output. The commercially available dimming electronic ballasts were tested. Then, through regression processes, the best-fitted equations were derived and compared to experiment results. The ratios of power consumption from different dimming level of electric lighting were measured. Based on such information, energy saving can be estimated when daylight responsive dimming system is applied.
