Active control devices are not reliable in case strong earthquake occurs and then structural properties are changed. This is due to the large amount of uncertainty between mathematical model, which is used for the design of active control devices, and real structure to be controlled. So an improved control strategy is needed for designing controllers which have reliable control performance and stability despite of uncertainties. This paper addresses the robustness of improved sliding mode control algorithm for uncertain structures, which have different mass and stiffness from the mathematical model. The proposed algorithm turned out to be efficient for response reduction and guarantee the robustness for the uncertain structure.
