This study was done on subjects sitting on floors to determine the interrelationship of their skin temperature and local thermal sensation from the vertical temperature gradients. It was studied in a controlled environment with an air velocity lower than 0.1 m/s, and with a clothing rate of 0.6clo and ta = MRT. The following are the results :1) Through a utilization of polynomial regression analysis considering the heat flow from vertical air temperature gradients, it was found that the expected skin temperature at each part of the body had a one to one relationship with the heat flow at all parts of the body.2) The mean skin temperature is a one to one relationship with the whole body thermal sensation. The case in which the whole body thermal sensation was slightly cool came out lower than the case in which the mean skin temperature was thermally neutral. The case in which the whole body thermal sensation was slightly warm came out 1.2℃ higher than the case in which the mean skin temperature was thermally neutral.3) It came out almost identical between discomfort ration by the skin temperature of foot and the verification of heat flow and discomfort ratio by vertical air temperature gradients.
