The chained analysis of wind tunnel test and CFD (computational fluid dynamics) for cross ventilation of a large indoor space is proposed and an example for a large-scale dome is demonstrated. The pressure loss at the opening is reflected accurately by the methodology proposed in this study. The procedure of the chained analysis is as follows. With the wind tunnel model experiment, the overall airflow rate of cross ventilation and the wind pressure distribution at the building openings are measured. CFD simulation for the indoor flow field is then carried out with the boundary conditions of the measured wind pressure distribution. The simulated overall airflow rate of cross ventilation is larger comparing with that obtained from the wind tunnel test. Pressure boundary conditions at the opening for cross ventilation are regulated to meet airflow rate of wind tunnel test. Boundary conditions at zero exterior wind velocity are induced, too. According this procedure, reliable and detailed analysis of cross ventilation characteristics of large indoor spaces become possible. To demonstrate the above procedure, cross ventilation at a large dome was analyzed.
