Background and Objectives:Warthins tumor is known to be the second most comon benign tumor of the parotid gland. still the mainstay of domestic studies. The purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence of this tumor from various standpoints and the corelation betwen smoking and the development of Warthins tumor. Materials and Method:A retrospective review of medical records was caried out on 135 patients who underwent parotid surgery from January 1991 through December 20 and were diagnosed pathologically as Warthins tumor and pleomorphic adenoma. Results:The respectively. The male to female ratio for Warthins tumor was 3.8:1 and the median age at presentation was 57.4 years old. Smoking is significantly associated with the development of Warthins tumor (p=0.0054). Conclusions:In this study, smoking seems to be a risk factor in the pathogenesis of Warthins tumor.
