Study 1 anlyzed the elderly victimization rate and compared it with those of adults and adolescents. The elderly were more likely to be victimized than adolescents, but less likely than adults. Study 2 analyzed the victim survey data collected by Korean Institute of Criminology and sought the determinants of the elderly fear of crime based on Yin's conceptual framework(1980). The elderly fear of crime turned out to be a function of gender, the type of residential building, income, and perceived seriousness of victimization. The behavioral , social, and psychological consequences of fear of crime were also analyzed. Finally the strategies for fear reduction were discussed.
