Where is Toji? The Interpretation of Toji Based on The Change of Receptive Condition Lee, Sang JinThe following shows that the change in the receptive condition of Toji of Park, Kyong-nisuch as distribution channel of publication in installments and independent volume, newspaper articles and advertisements, cinematization, and dramatization, the change of paradigm of literary interpretation, and the author's status-affect the reception and interpretation of the work. First of all, the author was not able to have enough time for creating an original work while Toji was serializing for 26 years because of competition and strategic purpose on business between magazines publishes. Besides, in spite of poor receptive environments such as frequent changes of the serializing magazine and the independent volume publisher, and the intermittence of serializing and publishing, Toji was once made to be a bestseller under the influences of newspaper articles, advertisements, cinematization, and dramatization. Last 30 years, the professional critics have never been able to assess Toji properly. It was very hard to keep the critical distance because of commercial strategies and editorial tendencies of literary magazines, or the contemporary dominant critical strategies, or being overwhelmed by the scale of the work and the authority of the author. On the other hand, 'Ttang', which is an Internet association of Toji, shows frank interpretation by finding blanks of work and filling it up. These sincere dialogues and the structure of reciprocal communications, and open-minded attitudes, as decentering reception of the work, are diametrically opposite to the closed, personal, and authoritative writings of the professional critics. As a result, this thesis raises questions such as from where the literary reception has to be started and how it has to be done in this digital era.
