The purpose of this study is to analize the properties of modified-words which cooccur with degree adverbs in Korean. Modified-words of degree adverbs are not originally degree words representing a degree in itself, but degree-related words which have a domain of the classified degree. In general, modified words of degree adverbs are adjectives of quality or stative adverbs. But they can cooccur with other words modified by degree adverbs, such as psychological verbs, causative verbs derived from, inchoative verbs derived from adjectives, process verbs, specific specifiers, and some motion verbs. The common factor which determines what can be a modified word is the semantic property [+stative] that possessed properties of [+degree height] and [+degree region]. The main semantic function of a degree adverb is to make a degree predicate from a non-degree word which has a degree region as a modified word. Namely, a degree adverb has a function of modifying a non-degree word forming a degree phrase. The intensification is classified into stronger and weaker intensification, the intensifier and the downtoner, according to the kinds of degree adverbs. Therefore, degree adverbs can’t modify degree words.
