The aim of this article is to examine what the degree adverbs are, the categorization basis of the degree adverbs. Two characteristics of the degree adverbs which had been told in the preceding researches are followed. One is that the degree adverbs have the feature [Degree], and the other is that the degree adverbs modify the static verbs. For the first one, What is meant for the feature [Degree] must be clearer. The feature of [degree] does’nt mean the feature which could be designated to various degrees but the feature which can designate degrees. So the degree adverbs themselves can not be designated to various degrees but can designate a certain degree. And for the other, though the degree adverbs have been said to modify static verbs, it has to be corrected to modify the semantic feature [Static]. The reason why the degree adverbs can not modify the active verbs is the active verbs have the feature [Active]. So the modification rule of semantic features has the following order ; [Degree]<[Static]<[Active]. Because the ‘degree’ in ‘degree adverb’ as well as the ‘static’ in ‘static verb’ is the term based on the semantic ground, it’s more reasonable to explain their modification as the relation between semantic features rather than syntactic basis. The degree adverbs can modify the [Static] root of the following active verb and the [Static] part of following NP as well. Furthermore the degree adverbs modify verb phrase or even sentence structure when could be recognized being static.
