A large quantity of water(2-5% of total water production) is used in backwashing water the rapid sand filters. This is done by backwashing, a process in which water and air are forced upward through the filters. When a facility recycles filter backwash water, it reintroduces contaminants back into treatment processes. Poor recycle practices can degrade influent water quality and impair treatment process performance. Recycle practices have the potential to cause a backwash water qualities that may cause a plant to difficult for water treatment. This investigations showed that optimum alkalinity conditions for the removal of NTU were 40-50 mg/L, adequate mixing ratio of backwash water to raw water was varyed with alkalinities.
