AB - This paper examines the recent demographic change of DPRK based on “the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Socio-Economic, Demographic and Health Survey 2014”. The survey has been conducted by the DPRK with the technical assistance from United Nations Population Funds and provides the overall status of the population, fertility and mortality, economic activities in DPRK. This paper focuses on how the social and economic characteristics of population in DPRK has changed since the 1990s using the Population Census of 1993 and 2008 as well as the 2014 survey. The recent demographic structure appears to be recovered from the economic shock in the 1990’s. The urban population’s share has increased slightly since 2008 and the overall life expectancies has bouncing back to where it was in 1993.
