ABSTRACT

Currently, our government is focused on developing and funding National Competency Standards (NCS) and enforcing them in a broad spectrum of industries in our country. This study provides realistic basic functional information that can be used to design education curriculum based on NCS. The 37 students who were majoring in skin care at S University, located in Daegu city, took a course in facial skin care, which was provided by the NCS competency unit (class number 1201010203-14v2) both in the 1st and 2nd semester of 2015. For the learning objects, 27 performance criteria were set in the 1st semester for the comparison group and 90 detailed performance criteria based on task analysis were set in the 2nd semester for the experimental group. The results were verified the effect of task analysis on learning outcomes. The average grade was 87.03 for the comparison group and 88.41 for the experimental group. The difference was statistically significant at the 0.05 level. Out of 14 questionnaires by the students, which included the ability of achievement, attitude, and satisfaction, 13 questionnaires exceeded the average score of 80.0 (perfect score 100). When the students were asked whether they would interest in taking the other classes if the facial care course will be applied on those classes, the positive answer was only 24.3%. We conclude that task analysis for each performance criterion helped not only to increase grade, but also to improve learner’s ability of achievement and promote positive attitude to learning.
