ABSTRACT

The death of Minyounghwan reflects the confused situation in the early 1900s, typified by Eulsa Treaty. His death became an icon of ‘Hyuljuk (blood bamboo)’ represented also loyalty and integrity but rather the embracing western civilization and enlightening. Minyounghwan’s death has created a kind of literary public sphere. This public sphere did not exclude from social statues or gender identity, and also was created in the voluntary participation. In the process of forming this sphere, Readers were called in Discourse of Hyuljuk through strategies to ensure the objectivity of the articles appeard in Newspapers like <Korea Daily News>. In addition to this discourse the overall which is a realistic description or literary section, is willing to hatch an combined public sphere with imagery of Hyuljuk beyond the Character power. These characteristics of the Hyeoljuk discourse provide the perspective can see the literary phenomenon totally, and it has an literature value that can show us how an act of social practice occure in literary public sphere.
